An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) fire has been confirmed as the cause of the wildfire in the Redwater Provincial Recreation Area, which is now 70 per cent contained.

According to Sturgeon County officials, the ATV caught fire in a remote part of the park, likely due to an electrical or mechanical failure. The fire has since grown to an estimated 400 hectares (988 acres), following a small flare-up near the river overnight.

No structures are currently at risk, but crews remain on high alert as a projected shift in wind conditions is expected later Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Ground and air crews continue suppression efforts with support from three helicopters, heavy equipment, and the provincial wildfire resource branch.

The primary affected area stretches from Range Road 205 to Victoria Trail, and Township Road 574 to Range Roads 203 and 205. An evacuation alert remains in place for areas south of Township Road 580 and east of Range Road 212 to the North Saskatchewan River.

Officials are urging residents to avoid the area and prepare for possible evacuation. If an order is issued, emergency crews will go door-to-door. Locals are encouraged to have a 72-hour emergency kit ready and follow official evacuation routes if needed.
