Public transit — take a taxi

We should be thankful that our city council has become frustrated with the additional $1.45 million additional cost over the original city budget for public transit. Unfortunately, they appear to have been blithely unconcerned about the overall cost of this service in setting the 2023 city budget.

The cost of operating our public transit system in the coming year will now be more than $12.6 million. With a probable annual ridership of approximately 490,000 based on last year’s figures. That works out to nearly $26 per ride.

Public transit will now make up close to 10 per cent of our residential tax bill.

Something is terribly wrong.
