Major road reconstruction work on Mission Avenue is taking place this summer, resulting in a few detours for public transit routes.
Work is being done from St. Vital Avenue to Malmo Avenue. It began June 1 and is expected to last around nine weeks until late August.
The work includes removing and replacing the asphalt structure, removing and replacing all concrete curbs and gutters, and completing spot repairs of sidewalks and driveway aprons as needed. Repairing landscaping and other areas impacted by construction will take place after the roads are reopened.
Full reconstruction is done for roads that have experienced significant distress, which requires removing and replacing the full structure of the road. Reconstructed roads with preservation and rehabilitation treatments last 20 to 25 years, according to the city.
Due to road construction, public transit users should be aware of a few changes to routes A4 and A5.
From June 9 to Aug. 5, both routes will be unable to service some bus stops on St. Vital Avenue and Mission Avenue.
Instead of travelling down St. Vital Avenue to Mission Avenue, buses will turn on to Malmo Avenue to eventually reconnect to Mission.
