St. Albert COVID cases decrease; no new deaths

COVID-19 cases decreased in St. Albert, the province reported today.

There were 28 new COVID cases in St. Albert between Aug. 2 and Aug. 8. Last week, the province reported 35 cases of COVID-19.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people in St. Albert was 40.2 from Aug. 2 to 8, a decrease from 50.3 — the seven-day case rate per 100,000 people reported the week prior.

There were no new COVID deaths in St. Albert. The total number of St. Albertans who have died from COVID remains at 88.

Sturgeon County COVID cases increased by one from Aug. 2 to 8. There were nine new cases of the virus in the county between Aug. 2 and Aug. 8, the province reported on Aug. 10.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people in Sturgeon County was 28.6 during the most recent reporting period. The seven-day case rate per 100,000 was 25.1 the week prior.

There were no new deaths reported in Sturgeon County. The number of residents who have died from the virus remains at 18.

Morinville saw COVID cases double.

Data from the province reported on Aug. 10 showed six new COVID cases for the town. The province reported three COVID cases in Morinville on Aug. 3.

The seven-day-case rate per 100,000 people was 52.6, compared to the 26.3 reported in Morinville the week prior.

The number of people who have died from COVID in Morinville remains at 16.

Data from the province showed there were 223 newly reported COVID cases in Alberta between Aug. 2 and Aug. 8.

COVID-19-related hospitalizations increased by 46 this week. The province is reporting 748 COVID hospitalizations between Aug. 2 and Aug. 8, compared to the 702 hospitalizations reported from July 26 to Aug. 1.

The number of people in ICU with COVID remained at 28, the province reported today.

The seven-day average for per-cent positivity rate for COVID increased. The per-cent positivity was 23.73 from Aug. 2 to 8 compared to 22.3 per cent from July 26 to Aug. 1.

An additional 21 people died from COVID, according to the province.

The total number of Albertans who have died from the virus, current from Aug. 8, is 4,694.
