There will be $5 million a year toward recruitment and retention strategies in rural and remote areas, and $2.5 million a year for relocation assistance.

Tim Richter, CEO of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness said homeless camps are growing across Canada and there are more people without housing. There are also compounding crises as housing affordability deteriorates and drug overdose deaths spike.

“Survivors need to be able to choose if, when, and where they feel safe to report,” it reads.

The temporary policy will apply from Dec. 19 to Feb. 12.

NDP Leader Rachel Notley said she believes the investigation is related to anecdotal reports that surfaced in September about Albertans being able to get access to the private health information of others through glitches on the province’s COVID-19 website.

There were 1,045 Omicron infections in the province on Monday, up from 173 reported on Friday, and more than half the cases reported to date have been in the Calgary zone.

"[The HSAA] has no doubt immediate care was rendered by trained health-care professionals – care in which our fallen colleague would have participated, had he not become the patient," the statement read. "There was no Airdrie ambulance crew available to respond. The fact that they had been pulled away from their community when this happened will be a hardship for our members who lost one of their own."
