One economist says while Alberta isn’t likely still in a recession, it may feel like a recession to anyone still suffering from a downturn in the economy.

Seven candidates running to be the next MLA for St. Albert tried to woo a room full of voters on Thursday night.

Spectators who came out to watch the St. Albert all-candidates provincial election forum this past Thursday say they were impressed with what they saw.

Healthcare is one of the biggest portfolios that the provincial government manages and it accounts for roughly 40 per cent of the provincial budget.

Five of the six candidates running in the Morinville-St. Albert riding faced off against each other during a forum on Tuesday night, trying to earn the votes of a crowd of around 200 constituents.

In an effort to remove one riding from central-western Alberta, the constituency of Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland was recently born.

Incumbent NDP candidate Marie Renaud is hoping to win re-election in the slightly-shuffled version of the riding she represented in 2015 and is facing off against a record number of candidates for the St. Albert vote.

With no incumbent vying for a seat in the newly drawn provincial riding of Morinville-St. Albert, each of the six candidates has a shot at securing the seat in the new constituency.

At least half a dozen NDP signs were vandalized over the weekend in the ridings of Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland and Spruce Grove-Stony Plain.
