While a wave of blue crashed across the province last week, the St. Albert riding remained a NDP seat, despite other suburban areas around Edmonton switching to support the UCP.

The political landscape in St. Albert changed drastically Tuesday night as the city's two ridings went from being represented by two NDP MLAs to being split between one government MLA and one opposition member.

It was a bittersweet evening for St. Albert NDP MLA Marie Renaud Tuesday night as she held onto her seat but watched her colleagues fall to UCP challengers across the province.

Two local Alberta Party candidates gave it their all but ended up conceding during Tuesday's election.

One election polling volunteer says she has never seen such a big voter turnout in the four elections she has worked in the past.

Albertans came out in record numbers to vote in the advance polls last week before election day, but some of those votes may not be counted immediately.

UCP Leader Jason Kenney stopped by Morinville-St. Albert UCP candidate Dale Nally's campaign office Monday afternoon to thank volunteers for their hard work and to get door-knocking teams enthusiastic about their last push for votes that evening.
