WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS: “There was a point during the summer before this happened, I made a joke. It was, ‘I’m going to end up giving birth on the side of highway because there’s going to be a fire.’ And then I was just like, ‘Oh, I should have bit my tongue.’”

WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS: New wood siding or roofing is prohibited, including cedar shakes. Homes are required to have a 1.5-metre buffer zone of non-flammable materials, and new coniferous trees must be planted at least 10 metres away from a building.

WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS: "Every member in this department knows most people in this town, so if they did not lose their homes, they knew people who did, whether it was friends, family, whoever."

FireSmartPeaks hosted a wildfire community prepareness day to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks in the Peaks of Grassi neighbourhood at Peaks of Grassi Park in Canmore on Saturday (May 3).

“I understand that people are concerned and, in some cases, afraid of wildfire season,” said Katherine Severson, Banff’s director of emergency management and protective services,.

Wildfire Innovations demonstrated a 100-foot-tall RainStream mobile tower at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club on Thursday (April 24).
