St. Albert's own Barkers Pet Motel and Grooming has emerged victorious as the chosen favourite in a city filled with pet enthusiasts.
Earning the coveted title of Best Pet Groomer in the Gazette's annual Readers' Choice Awards, Barkers has not just etched its name in local grooming glory, but have won the hearts of countless pet owners and their furry friends.
Victoria Skoye, a veteran groomer at Barkers said it is an hour to be voted as the winners of the award.
"It's nice to know that people keep us in mind even after they walk out the door of our shop. Each groomer has their own individual style and flair, so this award is especially exciting for us," Skoye said.
Barkers' success is attributed to all their exemplary staff who are working to keep the city’s four-legged companions primped and preened.
"The admin team as well as all the kennel and daycare staff deserve just as much recognition. We couldn't do what we do without our amazing staff," Skoye said.
Owners Sandi and Steve Aldred provide the winning combination of animal health and business expertise. The duo bought Barkers in 2007 and the business has grown a lot.
"My background is animal health, and Steve's is business, so it was a great fit for us," Sandi Aldred said.
"We have over 20 people on staff and some have been with us for many years. We are very fortunate to have staff that are there for their love of animals."
This love of animals is evident in Barkers' unique approach to pet grooming, which allows dogs a unique opportunity to stretch their legs, explore a bit and do their business during their spa day, said Skoye.
“Puppies especially enjoy it because they get to burn off some energy, and we enjoy it for the same reason.”
Barkers' commitment to a tailored grooming experience is further amplified by their specialized equipment.
"We have a Prima bathing system, Nagayu spa tablets, and a variety of shampoos for all coat and skin types,” said Skoye, underscoring Barkers' meticulous attention to individual pet needs.
Yet, Barkers isn't resting on its laurels. They're committed to staying current with the latest trends and techniques in grooming.
"Our groomers recently returned from West Coast Groom Fest in Chilliwack. They had the opportunity to learn from world-famous groomers and explore the newest innovations in grooming," Skoye said.
