For the second year in a row the St. Albert Funky Petals location has been selected as the top florist by Gazette readers.

Funky Petals, a chain shop with stores throughout Alberta and in two B.C. cities, has been operating in St. Albert since 2002.

Last November local resident Crystal Nanson took over the shop, located just off St. Albert Trail north of the Gate Avenue intersection, from the original franchisees.

Nanson said owning Funky Petals isn't her first time working in the floral industry, but for the decade or so prior to taking over she ran a home-based daycare.

“I purchased the shop in late 2022 as I wanted the opportunity to be a part of creating something positive and beautiful that I can run with my family in the city we call home,” she said.

“As the local owner of Funky Petals St. Albert, I am deeply honoured to have been chosen as St. Albert’s favourite flower shop.”

Funky Petals specializes in custom arrangements, however the shop also offers wedding packages, bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, corsages, house plants, and smaller displays that are ideal for gift-giving.

“I credit the success of the shop and popularity with our customers to my amazing longtime staff who provide exceptional service and execute creative, original works of floral art every day,” said Nanson, adding that the shop has three full-time staff, some of whom have been practicing their craft and perfecting their style for nearly 10 years. “Us taking over the shop has been one of the best things that we've ever done and the girls are just amazing, I've never experienced anything in my life like this.”

“I think one of the major things that separates us from other flower shops is the fact that we have three amazing full-time florists that each have individual styles and talent and art and then our cooler is filled with just such a variety of arrangements that really speak to everybody,” she said. “All three girls are amazing designers and bring a different artistic design element to our arrangements.”

“We pride ourselves in keeping our cooler filled with colourful, dazzling arrangements suitable for a variety of occasions and sentiments.”
