We don’t want you to miss out on a single second of camping season, and that means extending the season as long as possible. Alberta is known for endless winters, so we might as well include autumn in our camping season to get the most out of it. Whether camping in an RV or trailer, you get to enjoy a little bit of weather protection and some added comfort is the weather starts to cool down. As the larches turn to gold and the leaves begin to fall, you get the benefit of being amongst it all.
Here are three glorious Alberta campsites that are ideal for fall camping. You can thank us later!
Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park
This beauty is located about 125 km southwest of Lethbridge and 42 km East of the Town of Milk River. The campground is reservation-only and is perfect for both RVs and tents. You can choose from serviced and unserviced sites, depending on your needs. This place is utterly stunning, unlike any other campground you’ve experienced.
If you’re a fan of hiking and exploring, you’ll love it here. There are many hiking trails where you can discover hoodoos, petroglyphs, pictographs, and more. Several guided tours are also available if you’d like to get even more from the experience.
Beyond hiking, you can paddle the Milk River, enjoy birding and wildlife spotting, go stargazing, or sit back with a good book and enjoy the serenity of this awe-inspiring historical site. If you’re not ready to park the RV for the season, you should probably tack a trip to Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park onto your fall bucket list. Everyone needs to experience this place at least once.
Burnstick Lake Campground
If you’ve never heard of this campground, you’re in luck! Burnstick Lake Campground is located in Caroline, Alberta, and it is breathtaking. Weather permitting, you can camp here until the end of October. The lovely lake stretches over three kilometres and is filled with pike, perch, and walleye if you fancy yourself a fisherman. You can also enjoy boating, waterskiing, or simply sitting back and taking in the scenery.
The lovely, serene lake and campground offer a sandy beach, board launch, playground, horseshoe pit, and more. There is also a store where you can buy snacks, goodies, and those essentials you may have left behind. There are spots for tenting and RVs so everyone can find something for them.
Rentals are available if you’d like to paddleboard, canoe, paddleboat, or kayak. You will never be bored at this beautiful place, and it’s perfect for folks of all ages.
Cold Lake Campground
Located in Cold Lake Province Park, this lovely place takes camping reservations until mid-October each year. There are spots for tenting and RVs with both power and power/water services.
If you’re seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of a busy summer, you’ve officially found it. This place is surrounded by forest, offering privacy and peak relaxation. Campers can enjoy the sandy beach, canoeing, sailing, and wildlife spotting, among other things. Cold Lake is one of the largest lakes in northern Alberta, and it is truly a sight to behold. There are tons of things to do at the campground and in the city of Cold Lake itself. You won’t have trouble finding something to keep you occupied, from picnic spots and hiking trails to boating and fishing.
The campground is beautiful, comfortable, and the perfect place to kick back before the snow hits the ground.
