StAlbertTODAY: One year in and stronger than ever

ourview

To our loyal readers,

I can hardly believe a year has passed since StAlbertTODAY.ca was launched.

When we decided to make the leap to a new site with a new name, we had an ambitious goal. We wanted a site that would be fast, easy to use and give our reporters the flexibility to bring you the news of the day in a more timely way; at the same time, we knew we had to continue to play to our strengths – deep, high-quality journalism that goes far beyond breaking news.

Well, here we are: one year in and stronger than ever. Thanks to StAlbertTODAY.ca, we've been able to share your stories, your heartbreaks, your struggles and successes with people in our city and around the province, country and world. We've also successfully launched a daily newsletter (which you can sign up for here), and more than 2,400 people have chosen to subscribe. That number's growing constantly.

Speaking of numbers, we have almost three times the number of readers we did when this venture started. We've watched our readership go from 36,000 to 100,000, and our page views have risen from 97,000 to 250,000.

Combined with print, we now have more readers than we've ever had in the history of the St. Albert Gazette.

We've become your source for breaking news, Alberta news, Canada-wide and even international news. At the same time, our reporters continue to delve into the topics St. Albertans care about, crafting wonderfully complex stories that capture the nuance of those issues.

It's this time investment, coupled with our commitment to giving you the immediate news you need, that sets us apart from other news outlets.

I'm grateful for those of you who have been along for the ride since the beginning and all the new readers we have gathered along this journey.

I can't wait to see what this next year brings.
