LETTER: Thanks to everyone who helped us in our time of need

There are still many non-believers of the seriousness of COVID-19. Even some people in my household were skeptics. Then it hit our entire family of five like a hammer after New Years and we had no idea how we contracted it.

We did everything we were supposed to do. We stayed home over the holidays, we did not partake in get-togethers, and only went shopping at a handful of stores in St. Albert for groceries. Luckily we did not have the breathing difficulties but we experienced almost every other symptom. It was terrible and felt like a flu on steroids. I was totally bedridden for two weeks with fevers, intense chills and sweats, unable to eat, headaches and severe pain all over.

Despite the suffering, our hearts were touched by the kindness and generosity of people in St. Albert who knew we were all too sick to cook and couldn’t shop. I was so touched by all the care packages of groceries and pre-cooked meals that were left on our doorstep and people running to pharmacies to get us medications and prescriptions we needed.

It made us realize what a great community St. Albert can really be and how blessed we are to live in such a wonderful community. Thanks to everyone who helped and to everyone else, it is a serious illness. Symptoms can be very severe for all ages, as in my household, and recovery is very slow.

Please continue to be careful and do your best to help control the spread.

Michelle Findlay, St. Albert
