LETTER: Let's hope Alberta is as successful as Sweden in handling the pandemic

"Are they completely out of the woods? Probably not. But sounds like they’ve done a great job maintaining the integrity of social structures and are focusing on protecting the most vulnerable as they move forward."

Sweden is an example of a thoughtful and measured approach to the pandemic – encouraging hand-washing, limiting social contact, working remotely – but unlike us, no mandated masks (seen as largely superficial), no lockdowns, school closures or massive economic shutdowns, and allowing the virus to run its natural course. Did they get everything right? Sadly, no. Are they completely out of the woods? Probably not. But sounds like they’ve done a great job maintaining the integrity of social structures and are focusing on protecting the most vulnerable as they move forward. Let’s hope we can do the same in Alberta.
