LETTER: Flyer bylaw a waste of time and manpower

letter-sta

The proposal for a flyer opt-out set forth by Councillor Joly is, in my opinion, a complete waste of time and manpower. As an adult, if I don’t want flyers delivered to my door, shouldn’t I be capable of picking up the phone and requesting that deliveries cease? Or can’t I place a note stating “NO FLYERS OR SOLICITATION“ by my door? Am I so incompetent (or lazy) that every aspect of my life must be legislated by law?

If Councillor Joly really wants to see council have an impact on the environment and help reduce St. Albert’s “carbon footprint“ maybe she should look into reducing the frequency that fuel consuming recycling truck makes its run. After all, with reduction in the number of items citizens are able to recycle, there is no longer a need for weekly service.

Council should be focusing its efforts on finding solutions to issues that citizens can’t deal with themselves and leave the “make work projects” to others.

Leona Hodge, St. Albert
