On Friday, September 10, 2021 Charles Arthur Winegarden of Edmonton passed away at the age of 85 years.

Born in Stamford, Ontario in 1936 to Phyllis and Charles Curtiss Winegarden, Charles completed his pilot training at Kingston Flying Club in 1953, he joined the RCAF in 1954 and was quickly promoted to Flight Lieutenant (F/L) in 1958. Charles had a storied and memorable career doing what he loved, flying fighter jets. Charles and his wife Joan served all over the globe, from Trenton, Montreal, Marville France, Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie, Del Rio Texas, Cold Lake and Edmonton, although his heart was always with his friends who flew F-86 Sabres in Europe.  Through these years Charles and his beloved wife Joan raised 6 children. Once retired from the RCAF in 1979, he went on to fly for another 27 years, primarily as a flight trainer/flight inspector on numerous airplanes.

Charles will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Donald, David, Dale (Sheila), Brenda, Brett (Aimee), grandchildren, Charles Robert (Melissa), Michelle, Jason, Ryan, Krysta (Brad), Jessica (Patrick), Logan, Kristopher, Nicholas, Alexander, Jack, Bennett, Harris, great-grandchildren Charles Henri, Breanna, Jocelyn, Ethan, Markus, Hanna, Matthew and Riley. 

Charles was predeceased by his loving wife Joan, brother John, son Charles Francis and his grandson Justin.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Funeral service is Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 2:00pm. All friends are welcome to join the family on either day to share memories.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion - branch #271.
