We are sad to announce that Arnold Bruce Service Walker passed away suddenly but peacefully on January 5, 2025. He will be remembered with love.
Bruce was born in Edmonton in 1941 and spent his formative years in the West End before attending the University of Alberta. There he met his future wife Lori through Mixed Chorus and together they moved to the nearby community of St. Albert to raise their family.
A certified Clinical Psychologist, he worked his entire career for Alberta Mental Health organizations within the Alberta Government. He was a respected and empathetic mental health professional.
In his free time, Bruce enjoyed the family cottage at Pigeon Lake, and also took great joy in many family vacations to camp, sail, ski and see the sights at numerous locations throughout Alberta, BC and the United States. He had a lifelong passion for music, including playing guitar and attending choral and symphony concerts. He excelled in carpentry and constructed his beloved sailboat from scratch using basic plans, in addition to numerous other projects for family and friends. He also loved sports, and was at various times an active curler (1959 Canadian Junior Boys Curling champion), sailor (club champion), swimmer, tennis player, cyclist, and golfer.
During his retirement years, Bruce appreciated spending time with his immediate and extended family, including his special role as adopted Dad and Grandpa. Because of his passion for Scottish country dancing, he became increasingly active with the Edmonton Scottish Society, including serving as society president.
Bruce was predeceased by his mother Sheila Eleanor Service Walker and his father Arnold F. Walker. He is survived by his wife Lori (nee McDougall), his three sons Tony, David (Amy) and Scott, and his sister Gail (Louis Sledz), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss his decency, friendly generosity and quiet sense of humour.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at the Memories Funeral home (13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB) on Sunday January 26, 2025 at 2:00 pm for those wishing to say farewell, and it will also be live-streamed.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, we suggest donating to an organization that supports research and treatment into mental health, Parkinson's disease or heart disease.
The family extends their sincerest gratitude to Bruce's medical team over the years and to the staff at the Sturgeon General Hospital in St. Albert.
