October 28, 1943 – March 5, 2025
James Cameron Sadleir, known affectionately as Cam to his friends and family, passed
away peacefully at the age of 81, on March 5, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta, due to
complications from sepsis. Born on October 28, 1943, in St. Thomas, Ontario, Cam
grew up in the vibrant city of Calgary, Alberta, and after finishing his education, he
dedicated himself to a life of service by joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
(RCMP).
Cam’s remarkable career with the RCMP spanned 27 years, during which he had the
honor of providing VIP security at numerous high-profile events. His assignments
included the Queen’s visit to Regina in 1973, the Montreal Olympics in 1976, the
Calgary Olympics in 1988, and several visits by the British Royal Family and other
dignitaries to Edmonton. His commitment to his work and his country was unwavering,
and he retired with a legacy of professionalism and dedication.
Beyond his professional life, Cam was a man of many interests. He was an avid reader
with a passion for sports, as evidenced in his intense support for his favorite teams,
the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Stampeders. He was a basketball and football player
in his younger years, and he took great pride in coaching his daughters in softball and
basketball for many years. However, it was the time spent with family that Cam
cherished the most.
Cam’s sense of humor, friendliness, and wisdom were qualities that made him beloved
by all who knew him. He had the rare ability to light up a room with his wit and to offer
sage advice when it was sought. His laughter, his jokes, and warm presence will be
dearly missed but fondly remembered.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Karen Sadleir, who stood by him through
all of life’s ups and downs. Together, they raised two daughters, Leslie Shephard
(Dave) and Shawna-Lee Huskey (Steve), who blessed them with the joy of
grandchildren: Taylor Rose, Michael James, Jordyn Renee, and Alyssa Leigh. Cam’s
role as a grandfather was one he embraced with love and pride, always eager to share
in their achievements and adventures.
Cam is also survived by his siblings, Rob (Judy) and their children, Robyn, Christopher,
and Amanda; Kathy (Spiro), and their sons, Demetri and Gianni; and his ‘little brother,’
Rick, whose bond was unbreakable. The Sadleir family legacy full of funny stories and
memories will continue to live on.
As we honor and celebrate the life of Cam Sadleir, we reflect on the impact he had on
those around him. His service to the community, his dedication to his family, and his
memorable character have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Cam’s journey
through life was one of purpose, laughter, and love, and his memory will continue to
inspire and guide us.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Cam Sadleir will be
deeply missed, but the stories of his life will be recounted with smiles and laughter, as
he would have wanted. Rest in peace, Cam. We love you and are eternally grateful.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at St. Albert Inn and Suites – Heritage Room, 156 St. Albert Trail, St. Albert, AB, T8N 0P5.
