Margaret Romaine, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on January 23, 2024, at the age of 92.

To carry on her spirit and continue her legacy, Margaret will live on through her children: Susan (Richard) and John (Kellee); grandchildren: Terri-Lynn (Adam), Christopher (Aishlinn), Westyn (Chantel and Brady), Tyson (Chelsea), Shannon (John) and Shane (Julie); great-grandchildren: Emer, Garrick, Liliyn, Caliana, Huxley, Georgia, Kian, Kieffer, Jaxson, Carson, Kassandra and Lincoln; daughter-in-law: Rhonda and Candice. Margaret leaves many relatives in England and friends in St. Albert to mourn her passing.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Romaine; her son, David Romaine; her brother, Eric; and her sisters, Mary and Maisie.

Margaret met and married Sidney, the love of her life, after coming to Canada from England. They were happily married for 52 years. Together they raised their three children while Margaret was nursing. She later went on to receive her education degree and started teaching.

Margaret had a passion for life and lived each day to the fullest. She was living independently and was still driving in the summer. On Mondays, she sang with the “Groovy Gang” choir and on Fridays, she met with her coffee friends at Holes. She was friendly and outgoing; everyone knew her. Her interests were varied from listening to her classical music pieces to watching figure skating to visiting the mountains in Jasper. Margaret had a love of literature and was an avid reader. From an early age, she had the “travel bug” and visited many places throughout the years.

Margaret’s most cherished times were those spent with her loving family. Margaret loved to spend time at her daughter’s home in the country where she could sit on the deck and watch all the children play. She loved birthday parties, special occasions, holidays and family sleepovers. Margaret was fiercely proud of each family member and she boasted of all their accomplishments. She loved her family deeply and dearly. She also maintained a strong and close connection with her relatives in England over the years. Margaret will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family is grateful to the doctors and nurses at the Sturgeon Hospital for the compassionate, exceptional care Margaret received during her brief illness.

A funeral service will be held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, (125 Larose Drive, St. Albert), on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating a book in Margaret’s name to your neighbourhood school.
