Esther Mary Rankin (nee Onions) died peacefully on December 15, 2021 in Edmonton, Alberta, at age 93. She is remembered by her loving husband of 60 years, Hamish, sons David (Catherine) and Bruce (Ingrid), and grandchildren Luke, Mark, and Mary, and brother Bill Onions (Marg).
Esther was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on November 24, 1928. She enjoyed working as a registered nurse in several locations throughout Canada, including in the Canadian arctic. After several years living in New Zealand, she returned to the arctic, and later settled in St. Albert, Alberta. Wherever she lived, she was a dedicated volunteer, serving her community for many hours in churches, schools, community groups, and hospitals.
Thank you to all the staff, especially the nurses, at the Misericordia hospital where she spent her last days.
A service will be held on January 6th, 2022 at the Anglican Parish of Christ Church, 12116-102 Avenue in downtown Edmonton.
