Racine, Cecil Lionel (Ray)

Sadly, the family of Ray Racine announce his passing on August 17, 2022 at the age of 95.

Ray is survived by his wife Bernice (Willas) and his children from his first marriage: Lionel, Andre, Christine and Michel and their families. He was predeceased by his first wife Pauline (Feuilletault) (1982), his second wife Dorothy (Moore) (2005) and his son Paul (2015).

Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1926, Ray joined the army in 1944, as soon as he was of age. Following WWII, he returned to school and graduated as an electrician. In 1948 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and remained in the service until 1972 when he retired as a Master Warrant Officer. These years saw him stationed at multiple locations all across Canada as well as a four-year posting in Germany.

After retiring from military service, Ray worked for the Federal Government, first with Indian Affairs and later with Public Works, focused mainly on preventive property management.  He retired in Montreal in 1986 after more than 40 years in service for the Canadian Federal Government.

In 1998 Ray moved with his second wife, Dorothy, to St. Albert, Alberta to be closer to her daughter and family. Following Dorothy’s death, Ray met Bernice and they married in 2006, spending 16 wonderful years together.

Ray was always an active man who loved golfing, fishing, skiing, music, reading and computers. For a number of years he and Bernice led singalongs at many of the senior facilities in St. Albert and square danced together for five years.  In earlier days in Montreal, it was not uncommon for Ray to play 36 holes of golf in a day, and books needed to be at least 3” or 4” thick to be worth reading. Ray was also a great cook, producing wonderful meals, especially roasts which he always babied to perfection.

Ray will be missed by all of his families.

A funeral service will take place at 11a.m. on Wednesday, August 31 at St. Albert Catholic Church, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert.
