It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorne McKinstry at 92 years of age. Lorne was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on May 18, 1930 to Horace and Gladys McKinstry of Poplar Point, Manitoba. He was the youngest of four children: Phyllis (Ab) Giercke, Evelyn (Herb) Gabriel, Audrey (Marvin) Mulligan.

Lorne attended teachers’ college in Winnipeg in 1948, after which he taught in Belmont, Manitoba where he met his future wife Muriel. Lorne joined the RCMP in 1951 but returned to teaching again in 1966. He spent most of the next 25 years as Vice Principle at Paul Kane High School in St. Albert.

Lorne and Muriel were married in 1957 and had four children: Daryl (Nancy), Kevin (Sandy), Todd and Lisa (Lyle) Kluthe. He was blessed with ten grandchildren: Nathan (Stacie), Quinn (Erika), Lee (Sarah), Nicole, Aidan, Reese, Anna, Rachel, Camryn and Dallas, and three great grandchildren: Avarie, Chloe and Gavin.

Lorne was an avid sports fan, playing baseball, hockey, curling and golf. His love of sports carried on through coaching and mentoring his children’s sports activities; he never missed a game! To this day his love of horses is carried on with his children and grandchildren.

Anybody who knew Lorne appreciated his quick wit, tremendous sense of humour and larger than life personality. His motto for living was; life’s too short to be miserable!

As per Lorne’s wishes a memorial service will be held at a later date in Poplar Point, Manitoba.
