She got her wish for a peaceful passing. Mavis Margaret Louise (Havard) McKay, died on August 10, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on August 8, 1936, in Camrose, Alberta, Mavis's life was a testament to her generous spirit, loving heart, and passionate commitment to her community and family.
Mavis's true passion lay in her engagement with the community. She served as an elder at Braeside Presbyterian Church and as a board member of various organizations. Her quick laughter and feisty spirit made her a favourite companion at any table.
She is survived by her loving children, Shauna Oakie (Rob), Sheena Sutherland (Bill), and Laurie McKay and her sister Beverly Smith (Earl). Her memory lives on through her eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, all of whom were the light of her life. Those who welcome her on the other side of life are mother Anne (Sanders) Havard Fouts and father Percy Havard; her sons Colin and Kevin McKay; and many beloved family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 19th at 2:00 pm at the St. Albert United Church (20 Green Grove Dr. St. Albert). Donations to the Heart and Stroke fund in her memory are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
