It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Patrick Michael McIntyre announce his passing on July 26, 2025, at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Pat was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to Pat and Viola McIntyre on March 24, 1948.

In 1969, at the age of 21 years – Pat and his new wife, Betty, moved to Alberta for Pat’s work in the new mining town in Grande Cache.

Pat worked in mining from 1969-1985 – when in that last year; he and Betty began a new venture as Correctional Officers at the Grande Cache Institution.

They raised their family – sons Patrick, Kevin, Stephen, and daughters Elizabeth and Sherri in the scenic beauty of Grande Cache; and in 1991 relocated to Edmonton to continue their careers until retirement in 2008 and 2010.

Pat passed onto his children a legacy of love, his deep abiding faith and belief in Jesus and His promises, his compassion and strength in interactions in daily living, and his amazing sense of humour.

Pat is survived by his children; Pat Jr (Honor), Stephen, Kevin (Tina), Elizabeth (Rob), Sherri (Butch), 11 grandchildren; Brian, Blake, Breanne, Stephen (Jr), Keira, Kendra, Samantha, Madison, Mackenzie, Christopher, Kennedy, Lane, Hunter, Logan, and Shelby; 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also mourning his passing are his brothers and sisters; Monica (Leif Erickson), Elizabeth Silvestri, Tom (Mary) McIntyre, Janice Fehr, Cecil (Denise) McIntyre, and Jim McIntyre.

Pat was predeceased by his parents Pat and Viola McIntyre, father and mother-in-law Tony and Ann McCormick, sisters Marina, Mary, and Viola, brother Peyton, sister-in-law Carole Grenier, grandson Sage, brothers-in-law Clay McLean and Rick Silvestri, Dave Kosman, and Ralph Fehr.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 11am at the Holy Family Parish, followed by burial at the Grande Cache Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Parish Hall.

The family offer our sincere thanks to the staff at Youville Home this past year for your unwavering support, kindness, and dignity shown to Pat. We also offer our deepest gratitude to the Royal Alex staff (on unit 4) for the excellent medical attention and compassion given to Pat and our family.
