It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Cornell Mazurenko, our father and Gedo, on December 31, 2024, at the age of 73 years. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Cornell grew up in Weasel Creek, AB, later residing in St. Albert, AB. A reserved and quiet man, his greatest joy in life was his family. Cornell was a devoted father to his daughter, Cortnee (Jeremy), of Weasel Creek, AB, and sons, Sean, of Devon, AB, and Christopher (Ashley), of St. Albert, AB.
Cornell was a proud and devoted Gedo to his cherished grandchildren, Kalen, Carly, Maddyson, Daxton, and Kaycie, who brought light and joy to his life.
Cornell is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Florence, as well as his brothers, Terry and Marshall, and sisters, Gloria and Debbie. He leaves behind sisters, Marie and Donna (Alan), his brother-in-law, Brian, and numerous nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his quiet presence.
Though he was a man of few words, Cornell’s actions and reserved nature spoke volumes. Cornell found fulfillment and peace in being outdoors and putting in a hard day's work. An avid hockey fan, he could often be found cheering for the Oilers, sharing his passion for the sport with his family. His loyal German Shepherds, Ranger and Stoney, were another source of comfort and joy in his life. Cornell’s love for music brought him great happiness, especially when playing guitar and singing alongside his sons. His music will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Cornell’s quiet strength, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A family graveside service, at St. Michael's Cemetery, was held to honor and remember our father and Gedo.
