Trey Jack Louis Maruyama, known to all as Trey, the guy who could light up a room faster than a misfired stage pyrotechnic, has taken his final curtain call. Born on December 19, 2000, in Edmonton, AB, Trey dazzled the world with his presence until March 11, 2025, when he passed away peacefully in St. Albert, AB, after a brief yet fierce battle with illness. He was just a semester shy of his double feature graduation from the University of Alberta with a BA in Drama and a BEd.

Trey's passion for the arts was as evident as the sparkle in his eyes whenever he stepped on stage or helped a lost pup find their way at the K-9 Awareness Doggie Daycare. His creative spirit found a home among the vibrant cast and crew of the St. Albert Children's Theatre (SACT), where he was not just a member but a beacon of inspiration and laughter.

To say that Trey was passionate, creative, and kind is like saying Shakespeare was "pretty good with words." He was the living embodiment of the phrase "to be or not to be," and for Trey, "to be" meant to immerse himself in theatre and performing, to resonate with music, and to cherish every moment hanging with his tribe. His laughter was infectious, his wit sharper than a prop sword, and his hugs, a remedy for the dreariest of days.

Behind every great man is an equally remarkable family. Trey's parents, Carrie and Terry Maruyama, were his most ardent cheerleaders, and his brother, Dayn, was his lifelong co-star in the great production of life. The Maruyama household was one filled with lines recited over dinner, impromptu dance routines, and a symphony of shared dreams. With a supporting cast of numerous family members.

As we remember Trey, let's channel his humor with a quote from the legendary Robin Williams, who once said, "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Trey certainly never lost his spark, and like the brightest of stars, he used it to illuminate the path for others.

In his final semester, Trey was set to graduate in April, completing his long academic journey. His dedication to education was just another stage where he shone, infusing lessons with the same passion and creativity he brought to every aspect of his life.

Trey's interests weren't just hobbies; they were extensions of his soul. Whether he was belting out a show tune, strumming a guitar, or simply laughing with friends, he was in his element. Each moment was a scene to be played to its fullest, a song to be sung with all his heart.

To have known Trey was to have known a man who lived by his own script, who improvised when life threw plot twists, and who delivered punchlines that could make even the sternest critic chuckle. In the grand theatre of life, Trey's performance was a masterclass in joy, a testament to the power of a kind heart and a creative spirit.

As we bid farewell to Trey Jack Louis Maruyama, let us celebrate the life of a man who taught us that every day is an opening night, and that the show must go on, even when the star takes his final bow. His legacy is not just in the roles he played or the lessons he taught, but in the laughter he left echoing in the wings and the smiles he planted in the hearts of all who knew him.

Trey, you exited stage left too soon, but the ovation you inspired will resound forever. Thank you for the encores, the reprises, and the unforgettable memories. Curtain down, spotlight off, but the memory of Trey - forever a standing ovation in our hearts.

“In the end its not the years in your life that count but rather the life in your years.”
