July 1939 – June 2019

The Best

After a short but brave battle with cancer, Lorraine Jones passed away on June 6, 2019 wrapped in the love of her family and friends.

Born and raised in Newfoundland with nine brothers and sisters, Lorraine Dyke met Wendell Jones and headed west to build a life together. Settling in St. Albert they raised three children: Carolyn (Greg), Roxanne (Fred) and Biff (Cathy), along with dozens of their friends from school, sports, and the neighborhood. The door at the Jones house on Glenmore Crescent was never locked (in fact, there wasn’t even a key) and Lorraine always had a warm smile, homemade food, and sound advice for everyone who walked in the door.

She loved her job at the St. Albert Fire Department, where she worked for 22 years, eventually retiring to spend her summers at Skiff Lake NB, where so many of her friends and family would visit her right up until last summer. Never one to complain, when she saw something that needed fixing, she simply fixed it. When there was no place for her daughters to learn gymnastics, she and some friends founded the St. Albert Gymnastics Club.

For the last twenty years, Lorraine devoted most of her time to spoiling her grandchildren: Carlie, Sean, Connor, Cassidy, Paige, Justin and Bones. After Wendell died in 2011, she continued to travel to Skiff and to Florida, where she was extremely happy to reunite with her brothers and sisters and friends each year.

She was beautiful, and intelligent, and funny, and incredibly compassionate.

If the quality of her life can be measured by the number of people who truly, deeply, and completely loved her, then Lorraine Jones had the very best life anyone could ask for.

Friends and family are invited to join us at the St. Albert Community Hall on

Friday, June 14, 2019 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. There will be food, refreshments, and a few stories about a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory with a gift to whatever charity is closest to your heart.
