When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Cathy Lee (Throndson) at the age of 62 years. Cathy passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on May 16, 2025, after a courageous and short battle with cancer. She met her illness with extraordinary strength, grace, and resilience, inspiring those around her.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Dan; children from her first marriage, Ashley (Carlos), Craig (Arinna); beloved grandchildren, Aaliyah, Dylan, Milo, Aurelia; parents, Lowell and Laurel Throndson; brother, Dale (Lynn); nephew, Ben (Karlyn); niece, Kirsten; and lifelong best friend, Shawna Christensen. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law, Peter (Natalia); nephew, Jayden; niece, Lydie; as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends who she cherished deeply.

Born in Edmonton and raised in St. Albert, Cathy attended Leo Nickerson, Lorne Akins, and Paul Kane High School for her early education. Her life journey took her across Canada and beyond—including Moose Jaw, Trenton, Chilliwack, Dubai, London England, and finally back home to St. Albert in 2013. Along the way, she earned a Certificate of Gerontology from Belleville College, and dual degrees of Bachelor of Education and Arts from Concordia University in 2006.

Cathy met her soulmate Dan in 2005, and they were married in 2007. Together, they built a life in London, full of laughter and deep companionship. They made regular trips back to Canada to stay connected with family throughout the years, until finally settling back in St. Albert in 2013.

Known for her kindness, warmth, and sense of humour - especially on April Fool’s Day - Cathy brought joy wherever she went. She had an exceptional aptitude for working with those with special needs and the elderly, offering her compassion and care selflessly.

Cathy loved gathering with friends and family. She enjoyed spending time at the curling rink, camping, and cheering on the Oilers. Above all, she treasured her role as Nana -her grandchildren were her heart’s greatest joy.

Cathy had a rare gift for making everyone feel like family. Her spirit, laughter, and boundless love will be missed more than words can express. The world is a little less bright without her, but her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the St. Albert Curling Club, 3 Tache Street, St. Albert, T8N 2S3.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
