Imagine what a love of politics, deep faith and appreciation for Donald Duck have in common. A wonderful human who worked hard to support and love his own family while also caring about the greater good of our society.

It is in loving memory that we share the passing of Rod Johnson on January 23, 2023. He was 69 years old.

Born in Camrose, Alberta while Rod appreciated his rural, pioneering roots he successfully pursued a post secondary education in political science, studying abroad and building everlasting relationships including his future wife Luise and long-time friendships.

Rod spent several years teaching for Athabasca University, Red Deer College, and MacEwan, then explored a variety of opportunities in real estate. To know Rod is to envision him learning a new skill to improve his home or cruising around St. Albert’s beautiful trails on his e-bike. His quiet life was spent relishing time with family at the cabin, admiring both his son’s music and his wife’s art and taking delight in extended family member ‘Rocky the squirrel’. While recent years saw him balance complex health conditions, he found joy in researching political events and supporting family.

Rod is survived by his wife Luise, son Christian and sister Valerie. He was predeceased by his brother, Larry Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rod may be made to the Bissell Centre or Hope Mission.
