It is with profound loss that we mourn the passing of our father James John Hardy (Jim) on January 17, 2023. Jim quietly passed away, with his daughter beside him holding his hand reminding him that he was much loved.
Jim is remembered as a devoted husband of 53 years to Anita Hardy, and a loving father, teaching his children to appreciate nature, the creative arts and participate in social justice issues. Jim put himself through university receiving scholarships and graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in 1959. He excelled in his profession, first developing a successful dentistry practice in Edmonton for 40 years and later becoming a Professor of Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He designed and built a summer home with the help of family, where he loved to sail, windsurf, fish and boat around the bay. He was a creative and energetic man, actively participating in his Catholic faith, building a fiberglass canoe, sculpting wooden paddles and learning to sketch.
Jim is survived by his four children, Lisa, Monica, JP and Alana. A life so beautifully lived will be beautifully remembered. A prayer service will be held on February 23, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at Connelly – McKinley Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, Alberta.
