De Champlain, Marcel Obituary Photo

1931-2022

On May 30, 2022, at the age of 90, Marcel peacefully passed away surrounded by family in St. Albert, Alberta.

He will be sadly missed by his loving family; two daughters: Edna (John) and Julie (Brent); four grandchildren: Megan, Jeffrey (Nicole), Dean and Nicole; two great-grandchildren: Theodore and Jack; one sister, Lina; and one brother, Emile (Maria).

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Lucille; one brother; and two sisters; and his parents, Samuel and Germaine De Champlain.

Marcel was born and raised in Legal, Alberta. In 1956, he married his true love, Lucille, and in 1959, they moved into the family home he built for them in St. Albert, where they raised their two daughters. He was an active member in the community, including 14 years as a volunteer with the St. Albert Community League, and 5 years with the St. Albert Fire Department. He spearheaded the building of the first ice arena in St. Albert later known as the “Ducky Dome”.  He worked predominantly in public works for the then town of St. Albert followed by road construction for Standard General until his retirement in 1995.

He was the nicest and kindest person. He easily made friends wherever he went and once you were his friend, it was for life. His favourite sport was curling which he enjoyed well into his eighties, beginning with ice curling and ending with stick curling.  He and mom loved travelling to places like Hawaii and Europe, as well as, on numerous camping trips. Nothing made him happier than a gathering with family and friends, the most recent being their 65th wedding anniversary and his 90th birthday.

It gives us great comfort to know that he is now reunited with mom and that they are both watching over us and will forever be in our hearts.

In keeping with Marcel’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 18 at the St. Albert Catholic Church, 7 St. Vital Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. This will be a joint Mass for both Marcel and Lucille.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Lung Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
