It is with deep sadness the family of Jim Cairns of St. Albert, Alberta wish to announce his passing after a courageous battle with cancer.  Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Celeste; his mother Phyllis; children Matt (Dawn), Chelsea (Mike), David (Lara), Jenny (Brad), Amanda (Matthew); grandchildren Derrick, Chloe, Radley, Trey, Hailey, Avarie, Holly, Ethan, Elijah, Isaac; siblings Gail (Ernie), Cindy (Frank), Martin (Lori); his ex-wife Deb as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Albert (Al).

Jim was born in Prince Rupert, BC and in 1963 the family moved to St. Albert.   After graduating from Paul Kane High School, he followed in his father's footsteps and joined CNR.  There he started his career as an Electrician and retired after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Jim's interests included music, photography, dirt biking, backpacking and camping. He loved to spend time at "The Farm" with family and friends. Jim spent a lot of time on what he called "Pondering and Puttering". He could miraculously produce whatever you needed. He would look in his backpack or truck and come up with the desired object.  He was known as "The King of Snacks". If there was an outing and Jim was around, you knew the snacks would be great. His great achievements were his children and creating adventures for those lucky enough to spend time with him. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, we all listened.

Through all Jim's medical issues, he came back from each challenge even stronger. Never complaining, he would say, "It is what it is".  He handled each hurdle with dignity and grace. Most of all, Jim was all about love, showing it in his giving and thoughtful ways. He will be truly missed and loved forever.

As per Jim's wishes, a private gathering will be held at a later date.
