With much love & sadness in our hearts we share the death of Janice Barker at the age of 69.

Janice was brave and fiercely independent. She loved dogs and children and was devoted to her vocation as a registered nurse and worked tirelessly to comfort and heal. She got a job at the Youville Home as a 17-year-old, went into nursing training and worked all over wards in St. Albert and Edmonton during her career, with a special gift for caring for children and the elderly. She volunteered for just about everything a parent can volunteer for, and doted on her grandchildren and grandpup, Zoey.

Janice is survived by her children who she loved with all her heart and beyond, Eric, Carolyn, and Diane, her dear friend and namesake Janice, her ex-partner Kim and sisters-in-law Janet and Arlene, her son-in-law Morgan, her daughter-in-law Deanna, her grandchildren, Claire, Audrey, and Everett, her sisters Kathy, Patricia and Rhonda, her nephews Nathan and Greg, her nieces, Jessica, Jillian, Shaelynn, Cheryl, and Beverley, trusty neighbours and dear friends. Several beloved pet dogs will surely be waiting for her in heaven.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for our mother, grandmother and friend. In lieu of flowers, please choose a random act of kindness to perform such as shovelling someone's sidewalk, looking out for our animal companions' well-being, or paying for the order of the person behind you in line.

In honour of Janice, please keep an eye out for any person struggling with a heavy door or groceries in the parking lot. It was something she would have done for someone else when she had her strength and something she needed when her strength left her.
