Sherwood Park – There was more soul searching than celebrating as St. Albert survived Saturday's squeaker in Alberta Cup rugby.

Over the weekend the midget AAA St. Albert Cardinals got a preview of the tough competition they will be up against at provincials. The Cardinals host provincials starting Thursday and wrapping up Sunday at Legion Memorial Park.

The bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals went 3-1 on their final weekend of regular season play, but they still have one more game to go before provincials. It will be a make-up game after a rainout earlier in the season against SEEBA. Game time is 7 p.m.

This week St. Albert’s first and second 15 in women’s rugby will scrum down against the Strathcona Druids. The second division match goes tonight at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club. The first division tilt is Thursday in Sherwood Park.

The fourth and final Royal Canadian Legion nationals for Garrett King is shaping up to be a personal best.

Sporting a 12-5 record, the bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals know they are headed for the tier I provincials in Okotoks. So during their four games this weekend, they will simply be making their final preparations for the big tournament next weekend.

It's game-on for three of the four baseball diamonds at Legion Memorial Park this weekend now that the city has reopened them for play. City officials closed all four diamonds earlier this week after a diesel fire on the mosquito diamond on July 16.
