David Randall’s first season with the St. Albert Steel has been too good to be true. “It’s gone a lot better than I expected,” said the 16-year-old defenceman.

Ryan Stanton is living the dream as a pro hockey player with the Rockford IceHogs. "It's definitely pretty cool," the 21-year-old defenceman told the Gazette while in St. Albert during a break in the IceHogs' schedule prior to Christmas.

The puck drops at 8:15 a.m. Monday at the second annual St. Albert Winter Classic Tournament at the Akinsdale and Kinex arenas. Teams compete for medals in the novice 1 and 2 and atom divisions.

In what they hope to make a yearly holiday tradition, the St. Albert Slash will spend the Christmas break in Calgary defending their title in the prestigious Mac’s tournament.

The St. Albert Steel staggered into the Christmas break as losers in three out of four games in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

If the current standings mean anything, the St. Albert Raiders are in great shape heading into the Mac’s tournament in Calgary.

Christmas arrived early for Kevin Lacroix. In his first game back home with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, the St. Albert minor hockey product scored two stellar goals in Sunday’s 5-2 win over the Steel at Performance Arena.

Winless in three games, the St. Albert Flyers host CAC United Cycle tonight in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League. Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

Just in time for the holiday season, the St. Albert Sabres offered their coaching staff another present.
