Aaron Moysa has a special appreciation for the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
The Stollery has helped him through complications he’s had with a heart defect. Now, as a 19-year-old, Moysa wants to give back to the hospital that has done so much for him.
As part of this effort, he hosted a barbecue at Lions Park Thursday, raising $600 for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The LoSeCa Foundation supports Moysa. He has been with them for nearly two years.
Cherelle Letourneau, spokesperson from the foundation, described LoSeCa as a foundation that assists people with disabilities by “helping to get into the community and giving natural supports.”
Moysa took the initiative to ask the foundation if he could plan a fundraiser. LoSeCa agreed to assist him and Moysa then recruited the help of Letourneau to organize the barbecue.
Planning of the event began approximately two months ago. The first thing Moysa needed in order to host the barbecue was an approval from the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
“We went through the Stollery Foundation, filled out the application, and then they gave us permission to use their banner and promote the whole event,” said Letourneau.
Moysa said he chose a barbecue because he thought it would be a “fun and easy thing to do.”
Despite the less than ideal weather on Thursday, many supporters invited from the LoSeCa Foundation and the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee were on hand.
Moysa’s hope for an enjoyable evening was realized. Burgers and hot dogs were served, music was played, and the whole event had a naturally relaxed atmosphere.
Attendees of the barbecue were free to donate as much as they liked. Although the rain forced the event to come to an early end, nearly all the food was sold and approximately $600 was raised for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
