Where and how St. Albertans can dispose of their Christmas trees

With Christmas day come and gone, here's a couple of options available to St. Albertans to get rid of their real Christmas trees.

The first option is to wait for the city's Christmas tree pick-up service, which will take place between Jan. 8-19, depending on where abouts in the city you live.

From Jan. 8 to 12, those who live in the following neighbourhoods: Erin Ridge, Jensen Lakes, North Ridge, Deer Ridge, West Lacombe, Oakmont, Kingswood, Inglewood, Braeside, and Woodlands can place their trees outside on brown cart pick-up day and the city will pick them up.

From Jan. 15 to 19, those who live in the following neighbourhoods: Lacombe Park, Mission, Grandin, Heritage Lakes, Sturgeon Heights, Forest Lawn, Akinsdale, and Pineview can place their trees outside on brown cart pick-up day and the city will pick them up.

In order for city staff to pick-up trees residents must make sure the trees are at least a metre away from any obstacles and are free of any plastic or decorations.

“Do not place trees on top of, or in snow banks,” the city's website says. “Please ensure staff can see and access the trees safely.”

Another option available to residents is to take trees to the city's compost depot on Villeneuve Road.

As the compost depot is closed for winter, the city will only be accepting trees on Saturdays and Sundays in January between 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
