Alberta Health Services announced today that it has lifted the water quality advisory for Big Lake on the west side of St. Albert that's been in place since January.

The advisory was initially implemented in January due to substantial levels of fecal matter in the water caused by a sewer pipe burst the month before.

“Water quality, including fecal bacteria levels, has returned to an acceptable level and the health risk is low for usage of the lake for recreational purposes,” AHS said in a June 29 release.

“As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, at any time.”
