Drivers needed to provide courteous, helpful and friendly transportation service to seniors and persons with disabilities who have no other means of attending medical appointments in St. Albert and Edmonton. Your vehicle needs to be able to accommodate a wheelchair or walker, and you must be able to lift the item into the vehicle; you will not be required to lift or transfer the client. You can choose to accept assignments depending on your schedule and availability.
Are you available April 16 to 18 to help with the St. Albert trade show? Positions available at this family and community event include admissions desk, ambassadors for the event, stage area and concession maintenance and manning the volunteer lounge, fire exits and exhibitors’ door. Have some fun and meet some dynamic new people. Shifts are flexible to fit your schedule.
Are you a mature individual with good decision making abilities, knowledge of not-for-profit boards, an outgoing personality and a team player? Using your leadership skills, help this not-for-profit organization succeed in their ongoing planning of fundraising events. Monies raised are donated to the local hospital on an annual basis. Board meets once a month, second Monday of the month.
Are you compassionate and patient and comfortable with individuals experiencing decreased mobility? Provide informal support for a person living with multiple sclerosis (MS), by visiting, playing cards/games, reading or helping complete projects. Clients live in long-term care and often feel isolated and lonely because of decreased socialization. Clients would greatly benefit from regular visits from a “friend.”
Are you comfortable around horses and are you interested in helping children and adults with disabilities enjoy the therapeutic benefits of recreational horseback riding? In an hour-long class, a horse handler will lead a horse while the rider participates in the class. The side walker will walk alongside the horse and lend physical and/or emotional support to the rider during the lesson. Volunteers can also help in the barn before and after class, grooming and tacking horses, but this is not required. Spring session starts April 4 and runs for 12 weeks. Experience with horses or people with disabilities not required. Minimum age is 14 years.
Do you knit or crochet and enjoy giving to others? Volunteer in the comfort of your own home and make items that can be sold at our local hospital’s gift shop. Yarn is supplied. Monies raised from the sale of the items goes towards an annual donation to the hospital.
