St. Albert Community Information & Volunteer Centre has many volunteer opportunities to choose from and can help find the right fit for you, even if you are not sure of what that might be. Be a reading buddy to a child in grades 2 to 6 who needs a little extra help and encouragement in his or her reading. Mentor the joy of reading through various literacy related games and activities, as well as reading together. Program runs Feb. 1 to March 22. Program will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays; Tuesdays 4 to 5 p.m. looking for teen buddies between the ages of 14 and 17, and Wednesdays 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. looking for either teen or adult buddies.

Would you like to help sell Raising the Roof toques and socks that will directly help homeless youth initiatives? Assistance is needed at St. Albert Centre on Tuesday, Feb. 7 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Shifts are a minimum of two hours. Feel good as you do your part to find solutions to the growing problem of homelessness.

Would you like to get out for four hours a week and be a part of this vibrant St. Albert community organization? In this position, you will join a reception team in an office setting answering telephones, providing information to clients and working on the computer. The half-day shift currently available is Tuesday afternoons.

The streets of St. Albert are going to get wild during the RunWild Marathon on May 7. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available both on race day as well as pre-race, in the days leading up to the race. It all happens for a good cause with funds raised going to the Zebra Child Protection Centre and the St. Albert Seniors Association, so join in and contribute your part, while having lots of fun too.

Do you have a knack for taxes? Help seniors and low-income individuals complete their income tax forms for Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. The ideal candidate will have CVITP and CRA training credentials and banking, bookkeeping, accounting or financial background of any kind would be an asset. This position and program is part of St. Albert CIVC.

Help celebrate families and community as you assist with an afternoon of fun and outdoor activities at the St. Albert Fire & Ice Festival event with the St. Albert Fire Department at Lacombe Park Lake. You can assist with activities including skating, curling, an obstacle course, helping with refreshments, or set up/take down. Event takes place on Family Day, Monday, Feb. 20, from noon to 4 p.m. Volunteer as an individual, a couple or as a family; minimum age is 14.

Do you have a good understanding of financial management and accounting procedures? Help the Neighbourhood Watch Association of St. Albert in a treasurer capacity to keep full and accurate financial records and produce monthly financial statements for reporting purposes. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month.

Help celebrate the power of literacy. Your help is needed with this family celebration event to assist with set up, serving food, helping at activity tables, games with the children, face painting and clean up at the end. Event takes place on Friday, Jan. 27. Your assistance is needed from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Minimum age to volunteer is 16.
