A Morinville RCMP officer is facing charges after a months long investigation.
On Aug.27, Sgt. Sheldon Robb of the Morinville RCMP detachment was formally charged with breach of trust following a nearly 18-month investigation by Alberta’s police watchdog.
The probe, launched in February 2024 by ASIRT, also led to charges against former Westlock detachment Sgt. Daniel Mayowski.
While details of the alleged misconduct remain under wraps, authorities have confirmed that both officers will make court appearances—Mayowski in Westlock on Oct. 1, and Sgt. Robb in Morinville on Oct. 2.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said Robb is suspended with pay, whereas Mayowski has departed from the force. The RCMP continues to cooperate fully with ongoing legal processes.
ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
