St. Albert 150th Anniversary Rendezvous Picnic

St. Albert’s 150th Anniversary is in 2011 and there are many events throughout the year planned to help celebrate. Volunteer at the Rendezvous Picnic event on Sunday, Aug. 28, a family picnic of epic proportions that stretches the length of St. Albert’s river valley with activities happening from Kinsmen Park through to Kingswood Park. Assist as an area manager, information booths, merchandise sales, transit/parking hosts, site workers, goodwill ambassadors, set up/tear down team. This is an excellent opportunity to volunteer as a group, family, couple or individual.

Roots of Empathy instructor

If you enjoy working in a school setting, giving instruction with groups of children and working with infants and families, this volunteer opportunity will interest you. Roots of Empathy is an innovative classroom program for elementary school children that reduces violence and bullying amongst children and helps to build empathy. After receiving training and all materials, you will work in the classroom three times per month, once with a parent and tot. Program runs October to June.

Horse handler or horse side walker

Are you comfortable around horses and are you interested in helping people with disabilities to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of recreational horseback riding? In an hour-long class, a horse handler will lead a horse while the rider participates in the class. The side walker will walk alongside the horse and lend physical and/or emotional support to the rider during the lesson. Volunteers can also help in the barn, before and after class, grooming and tacking horses. Positions are available at Edmonton and the new St. Albert location, fall session runs from beginning of September to the end of November. Experience with horses, or people with disabilities not required, minimum age is 14 years.

Bookkeeper

Do you have current experience with a computerized accounting system and payroll functions, preferably Sage Simply Accounting software? Help this organization, with a particular focus on the outdoors and the environment, to prepare and maintain the books. Work can be done in your own home and/or at the society.

Board member

Do you have a passion for helping to improve the quality of life of seniors in the St. Albert area? This St. Albert organization is committed to the support of, and fellowship with, seniors in our community. Intergenerational board members, between the ages of 18 and 50, are needed to assist in setting the future of the organization by developing policy and strategic direction.

Vision mate

Help empower those with vision loss. Be a friendly volunteer once a week to a person with vision loss and assist them with reading mail, shopping or other needs. Feel good while you help them maintain their independence and continue to do the things that they love.
