UPDATE: Assault, firearms charges laid after shelter in place incident

Police have charged Kirk William Bonko, 54, with four firearms offences and assault.

A St. Albert man has been convicted of ramming a police car in Leduc. It is the second such incident this year. In February an RCMP vehicle was rammed in St. Albert.

St. Albert RCMP have charged a man who allegedly shot a firearm at an Amber Crescent home. The incident resulted in a shelter in place order for the area.

RCMP have charged Kirk William Bonko, 54, with four firearms offences and assault.

The police received the report of the incident at 11:42 p.m. on Nov. 24.

Due to firearms involvement, RCMP issued a shelter in place for the area and the Emergency Response team was deployed.

At around 1 a.m. on Nov. 25, residents of Amber Crescent, near Hebert Road and Atkins Drive, were asked to stay in their homes and away from their windows.

At 2:45 a.m. on Nov. 25, police arrested Bonko. No one was injured during the incident, and police took Bonko’s firearms.

Bonko was scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court Nov. 27.  His case was held over until a later date.
