Two tickets have been given out for COVID-19 offences in St. Albert.

As of April 15, St. Albert municipal enforcement had handed out two tickets under the Public Health Act.

The City of St. Albert declined to provide an interview or give any more details on the tickets handed out.

City spokesperson Florence Ma said in an emailed response St. Albert municipal enforcement had received a total of 31 Public Health Act complaints between March 15 and April 15.

Ma said 12 of the complaints “may or may not have occurred” and in those cases warnings or education was given.

According to Ma, 18 complaints were investigated and bylaw determined an offence didn’t occur.

The two tickets were related to one incident.

Bylaw is able to give out tickets for gatherings of more than 15 people, residents who are not maintaining a physical separation distance of at least two meters and various restrictions of businesses and operations.

In March, the province extended authority to police and community peace officers to issue fines for people who violate health orders.
