An Edmonton man and a 16-year-old girl were arrested early Tuesday morning following an alleged armed robbery and vehicle theft in St. Albert.

St. Albert RCMP Cpl. Laurel Kading said that are around 1:15 a.m. on April 5, police received a report of a possible armed robbery behind the 7-Eleven store on St. Anne Street. Two females – one adult and one person under age 18 – had been assaulted and threatened with a knife before their 2000 Pontiac Grand Am was stolen.

“We’re not going into a lot of details, but they were not assaulted with the knife,” Kading said, adding police are not saying what injuries the females sustained, just that they were minor in nature.

Just over an hour later at 2:30 p.m., Edmonton police officers found the Grand Am around 118 Avenue and 170 Street in the city’s west end. The two suspects were arrested and turned over to St. Albert RCMP for further investigation.

Kading said police are still investigating as to whether the victims and their assailants were known to each other or whether this was random.

“We’re looking into that; we’re still investigating,” Kading said.

Adam Matthew Adams, 28, of Edmonton, has been charged with several offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, including robbery and assault with a weapon. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court Monday, April 11.

The 16-year-old female, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from police custody to her guardian, and is to appear in St. Albert Youth Court May 3. She also faces several charges, including robbery and assault with a weapon.
