If an extreme cold warning and temperatures expected to hover below -30 C isn't enough to stop you from going outside, consider checking out these events and activities taking place in St. Albert this weekend.

     1. Chocolate tasting at the Enjoy Centre

Boutique handmade goods conglomerate The Makers Keep in the Enjoy Centre is hosting a chocolate tasting event on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Join us in a worldwide tour for your tastebuds as you learn to taste chocolate like a pro,” The Makers Keep website advertises. “In this session we will go through four of our products on offer and try an exotic two guest chocolates designed to take your tastebuds on an adventure.”

“You'll learn a little bit about chocolate making, a lot about the sensory experience that chocolate can provide you with, and you'll take home a flavour wheel to allow you to develop a vocabulary for those chocolates you keep hidden away as your secret stash.”

“All participants will receive a chance to buy our chocolates at a discount live in person after the event.”

     2. Merchants games

The St. Albert Merchants Junior B hockey team have two games this weekend, including a battle against the Leduc Co-op Riggers tonight at 8:45 p.m. at Aspen Arena in Leduc.

The Merch currently sit in first place in the Capital Junior Hockey League's West Division as they've won 25 of their 29 games so far this year, including 17 straight wins to start the season.

With a two goal game last Friday in an overtime loss to the Morinville Jets, Merchant's forward Nico Gallo moved into second place in all-time goal scoring history for the team with 84. 

Gallo currently has 28 goals this season, which leads the team, and now sits just two goals short of the Merchant's all-time goal scoring leader Casey Reid.

Another Merchants player making history this season is assistant captain David Saunders, whose four point game (two goals and two assists) last Sunday in a win over the North Edmonton Red Wings made him just the fourth player in team history to register 100 or more career assists.

Current Merchants forward Brett Reiter currently sits third in team history for assists with 107, while past players Matt Havens (121) and Reid (157) hold the second and first spots for all-time assists, respectively.

On Sunday night the Merchants will play host to the Spruce Grove Regals, with puck drop scheduled to take place at Jarome Iginla Arena at 8:00 p.m..

     3. Endeavour Brewing comedy night

Local brewery Endeavour Brewing is back hosting comedy shows at their Campbell Business Park location this Saturday.

Edmonton's Adam Blank, known for his stand-up comedy and his podcast Remember the Game will be the first comedian to take the Endeavour Brewing stage in 2024.

The event runs from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online.
