St. Albert RCMP say they have charged three teenage boys with robbery and assault with a weapon following an altercation at the local skatepark last weekend.

Detachment spokesperson Cst. M.J. Burroughs said in an email that Mounties received a call about the incident at about 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

“Three individuals were at the skate park when three male youths approached them,” Burroughs said. “Conversations occurred and the three male youths attempted to steal one of the individual's cell phone, an individual's scooter and stole one of the individual's vape.”

“Multiple knives were used,” she said.

Two of the teenagers who were charged, aged 15 and 16, are residents of Edmonton, Burroughs said, while the third teenager, 14, is a St. Albert resident.

Each of the boys face two counts each of robbery and assault with a weapon.

A post made by a St. Albert resident in a Facebook group on Oct. 16 alleged that the three youth also “flashed a gun” during the incident, however, Burroughs confirmed that there were no guns involved.

“St. Albert RCMP confirmed, through their investigation, that no gun(s) were used in the commission of the offence,” she said.

Burroughs said the three teenagers were released on an undertaking to appear in court, and are scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on Dec. 5.
