St. Albert city council approved a 2.79 per cent increase in municipal taxes for 2011 and is scheduled to vote on the final 2011 tax rate May 2.
In the time that’s passed since the budget was approved, some new issues have emerged that have the potential to push the tax increase higher. One issue is the hiring of an additional land planner. Another is finding nearly $500,000 because the latest provincial budget now requires the city to pay $15 for each electronic motor vehicle search request related to photo radar violations and other bylaw infractions.
“Half a per cent is what I’m guessing,” estimated Mayor Nolan Crouse of the potential impact on taxes.
As of press time Crouse had no further details.
