A petrochemical upgrading facility is set to be constructed in Sturgeon County.
The provincial government announced Monday Canada Kuwait Petrochemical Corporation (CKPC), which includes Pembina Pipeline Corp., will be going ahead with the project.
More than 3,000 workers will be on site at the peak of construction, with the project expected to create over 200 full-time operations and head office jobs upon completion.
The facility will be located adjacent to Pembina's Redwater fractionation complex. It will process about 23,000 barrels per day of propane into polypropylene – a higher-value plastic used around the world.
Construction is expected to get underway in 2019, with the facility operational by mid-2023.
