Residential street sweeping is expected to begin Monday, April 17, weather dependent.

“Watch for signs in your area and remove vehicles from the street and allow the crews room to work,” reads a notice from the city.

For the City of St. Albert, spring cleaning means arterial boulevard cleaning and street sweeping, collector boulevard cleaning and collector / residential street sweeping, litter control, and patching up those potholes that popped up over the course of the winter.

Sweeping rotates through residential neighbourhoods.

“All street cleaning activities are coordinated with waste collection schedules and will not affect regular pick up days,” the announcement here reads.

Sweeping notification signs will be posted in subdivision entrances before work commences. Watch for signs in your neighbourhood and check this page for updates.

Street cleaning is expected to take three or four weeks, weather permitting.

The city asks that residents move any parked cars, sweep your sidewalks and driveway in advance, remove rubber driveway mats and any other on-street obstructions such as basketball nets and waste collection carts.

When the signs are up at your neighbourhood entrances, don’t park on the street until the signs at the neighbourhood entrances have been removed.

Night-time crews will be working between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Residents backing onto arterial roadways may experience some related noise for a short time.

“Nighttime sweeping has proven to be very successful as city crews can sweep boulevards along arterial roads and center medians of the highway during the night,” the notice reads, citing safer and more efficient crew movement, less traffic and traffic disruption, and quicker completion of sweeping schedules.

“The patience and understanding of residents is greatly appreciated,” the city said.

Collector boulevard cleaning and residential / collector street sweeping is also scheduled, set for daytime cleaning between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
